Activities:
The main research projects which are conducted in Tyre station are applied researches and are related to the following cultivations: olive, citrus, cherimoya, mushroom and others. The objective of these experiments and studies aim to support the farmers in order to develop their production techniques, increase productivity and income.
- Weather station.
- Propagation unit to produce olive seedlings.
- Laboratories:
- Soil chemical and physical analysis.
- Water chemical and microbiological analysis.
- Olive oil analysis.
- Honey analysis.
- Food microbiological analysis (under preparation).
- Quality control analysis (under preparation).
- Ongoing projects:
- Improvement of Postharvest Technology of Horticultural Crops in Lebanon Project, with the collaboration of the Ministry of Agriculture and funding from the International Cooperative Agency of Korea (KOICA).
- Study and assessment of the quality of water sources in Tyre area.
- Morphological characterization of Lebanese olive cultivars (Olea europea sativa L.), in collaboration with the departments of: Plant Biotechnology, Olive Oil Laboratory, Kfarshakhna, Hasbaya, Lebaa and Baakline Stations.
- Study of edible and wild mushrooms and mycorhizas.
- Usage of Agricultural waste, farm waste and microorganisms in animal forages (agricultural waste, algae, useful microorganisms, etc.).
- Study of Cherimoya varieties on the southern Lebanese coast.
- Integrated Program Management (IPM) of orobanche species.
- Cultivation of Stevia Rebaudiana bertoni in Lebanon.
- Study and evaluation of the distribution of nematodes in Litani river as a monitor for pollution.
- Production of selected olive seedlings.
- Other Activities:
- production of olive seedlings by cuttings (local and introduced varieties).
- Agricultural services: Soil and water analysis, pests and diseases diagnosis.
- Monitoring and controlling of 8 weather stations distributed in the Southern Lebanese area.
- Amendment of data from Tyre weather station to the airport and other institutions.
- Training of students from different universities.
- Execution of field experimental trials in collaboration with other LARI stations and different universities.
